Genius, I tell you

posted by Sharon at
Okay, no Asher pictures, but an Asher story:

I just walked into the living room, and as I arrived, Asher was saying "Look, Daddy! A derangement!" (Daddy was at the other end of the house, in the kitchen.) He had placed his colored balls in the colored holes of the ball toy in a derangement (no ball in the same colored hole), and knew it!

Seriously. The kid knows his combinatorics.

Apparently Kurtis taught him the word last night, when they were playing with the ball toy, but... he understood. And remembered. Genius, I tell you.

(For those who are curious, there is only a 3/8 probability that a random permutation of the 4 balls will be a derangement, so clearly this was no accident.)

Moving to Pennsylvania!

Well, we've accepted an offer for me to teach at Grove City College in Grove City (duh!) Pennsylvania, starting this August. Thanks for your prayers and advice -- you can stop now! (kidding... I'll never stop needing prayers and advice!) Technically the papers still have to be signed, but we're going.

It's a big ball of stress off my shoulders -- I didn't realize how crazy I'd been. (Sorry, Kurtis!) Now, of course, I get to go stress-crazy over selling the condo... yikes. But I'm not worrying about that this week -- I have a job!

Please do keep praying for Kurtis to find a job there, or be able to continue at his current one (our hope, but who knows if they'll be up for that).

...oh, and we'll get more Asher pictures up soon, I hope. I know that's what this blog is really for. :)

KURTIS EDIT: I added the link to the Grove City info page. Stunning reading, I tell you.

I don't like being gone

posted by Sharon at
I'm back now, from 3 days in PA, and before that 3 days in TX. Interviews went well, I think, but I don't like being gone from Kurtis and Asher. I missed them, a lot, and I kinda think Asher missed me too. And I'm pretty sure Kurtis missed me.

But I don't have to leave again, at least not for a while -- maybe not any more at all. So I'm gonna enjoy the Big Game party tomorrow, and try to catch up on some family time this week.

Anyway. Not much point to this entry, but there ya go.
