House, pinkeye, freaking out... you know, the usual

posted by Sharon at
We've signed a contract on a house! See 411shadydrive.howardhanna.com for pictures etc. I'm so excited!

On the other hand... Asher seems to have an ear infection and eye infection -- pinkeye? Ick. We'll try to get an urgent appointment for tomorrow, but you never know...

And, of course, with moving coming up in 6 weeks or so, I'm starting to freak out. Selling, buying, packing, etc.... anyone want to come rub my shoulders?

(Pre)School Pictures!

posted by Sharon at
We are officially yuppie parents -- we just got Asher's "school" pictures! Let me tell you, he's one cute kiddo.

If you're family, you'll probably get a picture soon. Others, maybe if you ask really nicely. :)

But if you want to feast your eyes on all the poses (or order more pictures, or Asher key tags or whatever), you can go to

http://photogifts.lifetouch.com/

and log in with the email address sharonkm at google dot com. You'll need to ask us for the password -- we'd rather not open this up to the whole wide internet. (Though, come to think of it, we already have about 80 bajillion pictures of Asher up with no password protection at all, so... yeah. Barn door, horse gone, etc. But still, we bar the stinkin' barn door! So contact us for the password.)

He is cute. A little squinty, but all the cuter for it.

Moving and Job Search

posted by Kurtis at
You can all thank Shelly for this. Her email got me thinking that I outta just go ahead and post about this.

As you already know if you've been reading this occasionally, Sharon's accepted a job at Grove City College and we're moving to Grove City, PA in a couple of months. Everybody at Jump Trading where I work that supervises me already knows, so I guess it's safe to blog about. That said, we haven't been able to come up with a solution that allows me to work remotely. I still have hope that we will, but because of tension at the company about my project (and other events that have upped tension at the firm overall) the decision about whether to let me work remote or not has been put on hold.

Obviously this puts Sharon and I in a tough situation. In a couple of weeks we're going to go look for housing, and to get a pre-approval I need to know what we'll be making, and without a commitment from my current high paying company I'll need to estimate what I could make at a job closer to there. There are a few openings that look okay there, and though I don't expect to make what I'm making now, I would be happy with them. The problem is I'm getting very little interest from those employers so far, so I don't really have any idea what to expect.

I really believe this move is God's will, so we are waiting on Him for this, but I felt blogging about it would let you all know what's going on in case you want to pray about it, or if one of you happen to be best friends with somebody out in western PA who needs a senior C++ developer. My resume's on Monster.

Other than that, aside from multiple illnesses (cold and flu season hit the McCathern household pretty hard this year, though Sharon managed to dodge the worst of it) we're all doing pretty well.
